Music Genres?

Janey;s thread and Calismum's comment about eclectic tastes in music got me thinking. What sort of music do you generally listen to?

Me:

Sixties and 70's rock
folk
classical - mostly chamber music
lute music
Gregorian chant
light opera- Gilbert & Sullivan

Odd mixture, I guess

Re: Music Genres?

I always say - don't knock it until you've heard it. This has been great advice as I find I like the odd hip hop track, some punk stuff and some classical.

However, my first love is rock - rainbow, deep purple, black sabbath, metallica etc.

I also like, scottish fiddle, bagpipes, folk and chant etc etc.

In the car just now I have - REM, Kirsty Macoll, Ramstein, Highland Pipes, Red Hot Chili Peppers and T Rex.

I generally don't like 'proper' opera, boy bands or 'manufactured' pop.

Great thread idea DM!

Re: Music Genres?

I don't really have a specific genre that I prefer over any others, I tend to just hear things I like on the radio hence the very eclectic collection on my i-pod It ranges from cheesy pop to the Prodigy and Nirvana, Welsh folk music and Buddy Holly as well as Eminem and 50 cent!

Well, I'm a big 60's fan, as well as a huge lover of C&W. I also enjoy some modern pop, but can't stand hip hop and rap etc. bagpipe music makes me tingle and I like 80's soft rock.

Re: Music Genres?

Total mix here from classical piano (real stuff; none of your John Williams TV classical), Italian opera through jazz - swing, dixie and modern cat-running-up-and-down-piano stuff, right up to punk/new wave and old rock (led zep, deep purple, rainbow).

Sorry! have to say that I like both John Williamses! Guitarist and film score composer. Really like film music atm and listen to Classic fm mostly.

Still love Queen, Lindisfarne, Gerry Rafferty, James Taylor, Free - sort of live in the past musically I'm afraid.

Re: Music Genres?

lots of different sorts for me...
Gilbert and Sullivan is a fav... all the classic G & S operettas
broadway/west end musicals..
love the pipes and drums and the Corries as well as irish music especially with the bodhran..and the Furey's
love standard opera... especially Andrea Bocelli
lots of modern stuff... lilly allen, pink, christina agulleira (sp?)
Harry Connick Jnr, Michael buble, and michael feinstein
Beatles, Rod stewart and Frank sinatra...

Not into Rap or punk or hip hop.. a little C and W is ok... but tend to lean towards the mainstream C & W like the Dixie chicks etc..

Me too!

I mainly listen to classical and have classic fm on in the car & at home. I enjoy the whole range of classical, baroque, gregorian chant, opera, film scores, etc and I find Ludovico Eunaldi very relaxing! I do like 60's & 70's music though, but wouldn't be able to tell you 1 song in the charts!

I like loads of stuff from Blues such as Luicille Bogan, also love Scott Walker, Rock and Roll, 60's, Punk (my era so my first love), Grunge, some Rap and Hip Hop and some Metal.

Forgot to mention Ska, Paul Weller, Terry Hall and I adore old musicals such as Doris Day movies and Elvis movies.
