Cloudless Tuesday thread

Another scorcher.
The cats have a vet appointment at 9.40 for their vax/annual health check. What do you think the chances of finding them/getting them in from outside? The vets must be used to receiveing calls at this time of year - "I'm sorry, Sparky has gone out and I can't get him in - I''ll be round when I find/box him"
Optician appointment for me this afternoon but that's about it for today.
Hope the sun continues to shine on all

Re: Cloudless Tuesday thread

A beautiful morning here which puts an unconcious spring in my step automatically! Office-bound again today but will be stopping by the allotment this evening with the boys to water anything that needs a can-full.

Dominik enjoyed his Beavers very much last night, depsite getting a bit upset at me leaving (which I didn't really. . . just wandered around the little roads around there with Sebi until it was time to collect him). He'll be fine - it was just full of new kids that he didn't know but that'll change as he's a friendly little chap.

I hope everyone enjoys some of this lovely weather

Re: Cloudless Tuesday thread

The deed is done! Both were missing at 9.15 (appointment 9.40) but reappeared soon after and were kept amused by those wonderful prawn bribes! Both are fit and well. Ches has lost .9kg since this time last year. He is now exactly 4kg (Bentley is 4.7) - what on earth did the poor scrap weigh when he was found? Anyway, we just continue with our current regime - it's no good trying to give him loads of extra food, as it flies straight through him. Both had an extra worming, so that might help Chester with his weight-gain.
I, too, must make it to the allotment again today. The outside crops are doing fine (we did have a solid day of rain last Wednesday, after all) but the ones in the polytunnel soon get droughted.

Edit:
I forgot to say that my otherwise very pleasant trip to the vet was marred by the arrival of a couple with their beautiful old spaniel for its last vist. The lady came in first and 'checked in', said the dog was in the car, made arrangements to get the ashes back. Then she lost her previously stiff upper lip and started to snivel. Then she went back to the car and I caught the receptionist's eye and we both commented that it never gets any easier and both got a throat lump/moist eye. Then the lady and her OH and a very old, panty and be-lumped doggie came in. And she got her tissue out again. She never did look over at me, or I would have felt bound to say she was doing a wonderful brave thing ... but that would have set us both howling. I wondered about starting a conversation, but we were called in, luckily. No sign of them when we came out. Oh what a sad thing. Last appointment is best for that sort of thing - keep the surgery empty to hold all your grief

Re: Cloudless Tuesday thread

Oh dear DM, you've started me off with that old spaniel they're the only breed of dog I've ever had and sorely remember doing that final visit with my old girl Bess. I've given Morgan an extra cuddle and hope the couple have loads of happy times to remember.

It's been a very frustrating morning here, I've only recently managed to get connected. Don't know what the problem was but we've been switching off again, unplugging the modem, trying again etc. and it finally worked! Trouble is I've got nothing done! It's nearly lunchtime and the carpets haven't been done yet.

The postman brought me some copper slugrings this morning, has anyone tried them? The theory is that they give slugs a sort of electric shock so they avoid climbing over them and so the plant within the ring is protected. I'll let you know how we get on, maybe we can save the lupins!

Yola - my son loved being in the beavers and cubs especially the weekend camps when he managed to avoid getting washed the whole time!

Re: Cloudless Tuesday thread

Hello all. Well, I'm here again for a quick heads up on how you are all faring. Work has been extra frantic since the Bank Holiday, the sun has brought out all the late May/ early June babies.

the weather is super glorious but a bane in the hot birthing pool room , phew! lots of fans and iced water to keep mams and midwives focused and energized

Yola, good luck at the Beavers, I was a Brownie and Girl Guide, loved it! and the poor old spaniel meeting its last appointment, oh, DM, it brought back sad memories of my dear old collie Jess and the fact that it may be soon for my Bronnie too. Will certainly have no stiff upper lip on that day but have to be brave and face it to the end with my beloved friend, bless her.

thanks for the copper ring tip for my lupins Mrs H. I'll that one out

Cheers, me dears, hope to be back soon . xxx

Re: Cloudless Tuesday thread

Apologies for bringing up sad memories.
Think of the 100x happy memories instead

It is really hot. I've walked to town for my appointment and the place was like Greece or Spain - streets deserted and the few who were arpound making sure they stayed on the shady side of the street.

Re: Cloudless Tuesday thread

Afternoon, all. Hazy sunshine and it's warming up nicely already 28C and will make 32 by afternoon, woo hoo! My kind of weather! Nothing new here; the usual market run and checking on the veggie plot...beans shooting up and have a few verrrry small tomatoes set; think the basils are big enough to snip a few leaves to add to the salad tonight.

DM, glad the boys were catchable at vet visit time; sad story about the elderly spaniel, however. It is so hard, I was thinking of my dear Sultan...

Hope your weather continues well, all!

Re: Cloudless Tuesday thread

Home from a very busy and hot day at work! Had to keep all the poor animals cool with fans plugged in everywhere
Very sad about the oldie DM, it never gets any easier-I quite often shed a few tears at the end of the day. I've always thought that the day it doesn't get to me is the day to find another job.
Imogen is finally back to her normal, slightly naughty self today -climbing the curtains after a bug this morning
Lx
