Killer Maxi

I was in shock this morning when Maxi made his first ever kill as it was so totaly unexpected and quick, it all started when i let them out for their morning adventure in the garden, I had put both their collars on and had just opened the door to let them out, Maxi did is usual trick and flew out of the door while Maisy waited for me to slip my shoes on.
Next thing I heard alot of noise from the birds and saw a male blackbird swooping at Maxi who had one pinned down on the floor, I went out to rescue the poor thing to find Maxi with blood on his white paws and around his mouth, I fetched him inside and checked the bird but he had killed the poor thing outright
I know he is a cat and that is what they do but he shocked me because I didn`t think he really had the killer instinct in him, now with Maisy on the other hand I would have expected it.

Poor blackbird. It's in their nature as we all know Leesy. Kizzy has yet to catch a bird, but she loves to chase them. She's more of a rodent specialist, but although I THINK she has eaten a mouse, she has tended to play with them and that gives us time to try a rescue. It's impossible to tell a cat - oh kill the mice, but leave everything else alone as much as we'd like to.

It`s ashame that we can`t though isn`t it

"Nature, red in tooth and claw". Instinctive predators, even a gently reared house cat who's never been outside knows what to do. Leia and the rat ......
