Guide Dog open day

Fancy a day out this weekend?

Everyone welcome.

What: Thousands of people (and their dogs!) including TV favourite Peter Purves will be at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire this Saturday (18th) for a unique look at what makes a life-changing guide dog partnership, and possibly take a once-in-a-lifetime blindfold walk with a guide dog. Hundreds of people will also take part in Guide Dogs Fun Run (starting at 11am).
When: Saturday 18 July, 10am – 5pm
Guide Dogs Fun Run begins at 11am;
Douglas C47 Dakota fly past at 4.40pm approx.

Where: Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire CV8 2LZ
Cost: Free to enter!
The Guide Dogs Experience 2009 will be a fun-packed celebration of the UK’s 4,500 guide dog partnerships and the life-changing mobility that they provide.
Everyone from dog lovers to families wanting a fun day out will be taken on a ‘journey’ through the care and training of a guide dog, the extraordinary relationship between a guide dog and its owner, and the work that goes in to making that partnership possible. Some lucky visitors may also get the chance to experience the mobility a guide dog brings by taking a blindfold walk with a guide dog.
Also part of the huge exhibition is Art4All – Understanding Guide Dogs through Art, an exhibition of art that can be appreciated through touch and sound as well as sight. Some of the blind and partially-sighted artists will be present to give visitors an insight into their work and children can have a go at producing their own sensory art.
Visitors can also put on their running (or walking!) shoes and take part in The Guide Dogs Fun Run, with 5k or 10k options through the beautiful Warwickshire countryside. There will be many guide dog competitions and displays, stalls and stands, and younger visitors can visit the Kids Play Zone and find out how they can help blind and partially sighted people as well as have a go in the Mystery Box Game!
Crowds will be wowed by a flypast from a magnificent Douglas C47 Dakota.
Fun Run details

This is your invitation to join hundreds of runners for the second Guide Dogs Fun Run, sponsored by Saucony.
The 10K run, with 5K option, will take place during The Guide Dogs Experience on 18 July, a spectacular day out for all the family celebrating the work of Guide Dogs.
You can walk, jog or run through the beautiful grounds of Stoneleigh Abbey, near Coventry, in the heart of the Warwickshire countryside.
To apply, please complete the short entry form link to
fun run, or call the Events Team on 0845 600 6787.

Re: Guide Dog open day

Sounds like a good day out and very interesting too. Too far away for me though and sadly there never seems to be anything like that up here.
Have a great day anyway and I hope it's a huge success.
