Ted Kennedy

We lost our old lion last night. We knew it was coming, but so so sad. I teared up a bit hearing the news this morning. End of an era; we shall not see his like again.

Re: Ted Kennedy

It's very much the end of an era isn't it - Valete to the Kennedy clan, for Caroline certainly didn't set the world on fire when she briefly flirted with the political scene

Re: Ted Kennedy

Strange his passing brought tears to my Mom's eyes...she is the least political person you can meet. She hasn't got a clue really. But for some reason the Kennedy's caught her imagination (for want of a better word)

Maybe its a generational thing. The Kennedy's being the "dream machine almost"

I am trying to think if we in the UK have ever had a "family" like the Kennedy's and decided we have not...unless someone knows better.

Re: Ted Kennedy

A very sad day. Those days of the 60's and The Kennedys are as much about a point in time for a whole generation as anything else I feel. Men of substance ............ few political leaders had as much "presence".

Not an exact analogy, Kazz, but what about the Mitfords?

Re: Ted Kennedy

The Benns, maybe, though they don't have the same public profile.
Tony has been in parliament for ever, and remember he was the WW2 flying ace who gave up the family title (Lord Stansfield? - something like that) to become Antony Wedgewood-Benn and now just Tony Benn.
His son (Hilary - not a great name for us wimmin and awful for a bloke) is Energy Secretary now and there's a granddaughter who will be standing in the next elections.
