Spiders on the increase

It appears there may be an abundance of spiders around this winter due to the weather and favourable breeding conditions

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/8273960.stm

It's bad enough now when I keep walking into well hidden spider's webs in the garden ........ there have also been more of the critters appearing in the bath!

I feel sorry for the spider haters amongst us here but just thought I'd give you the warning!

Lukily Sean was at home to get one up the hoover but the next night he was out so poor me and Emma managed to get glasses over them and I had to call a friend to come to my house to get them out!!!

I love spiders and watching them spin their webs is fascinating. I know that people have genuine phobias, but I can't understand why they are so scary!

Re: Spiders on the increase

I commented the other day how many huge spiders I have found in the last few weeks in my house. One sat on the stairs when I nipped to the toilet which is downstairs, I passed him on my way up, stopped, went down a step and there he sat - massive! Had to unlock my door, get a bag and kind of will him to get in, which he did. Then a couple of days later I found first one in the kitchen on the floor, got him out too, this time in a carrier bag and then ten mins later a even bigger one sat in exactly the same place, old Max cat was dabbing him by this time. Saved him tho, soft that I am. Yuk, its official then - I am not imagining it!! Jan x

Arghhhh. No, can't bear the thought of more. Alfie is rubbish with them, just has a half hearted glance.

Re: Spiders on the increase

I am an extremely lucky person then this autumn as I have two very good spider hunters in Kizzy and Pip. I don't like spiders, but have learned over the years not to have fits of the screaming ab-dabs. A glass and a beer mat used to be my best friends because I didn't like to kill them but now I have a GUARD CAT and her assistant!

Funnily enough I don't mind the ones that spin their beautiful webs in the garden. Generally Common Cross in this area. I think it's because I know their name. Not that I want to cuddle them of course, but I can see their fascination and their webs are so lovely with dew on them.

I don't mind the smaller types of spiders, large spiders are a different story - e.g. daddy long legs (they are horrible!).

Dylan's useless with spiders, they are too small a prey for him to bother with.

Leia's the same ....anything smaller than a mouse isn't worth bothering with.
