It's amazing how hard it is to ignore practices that we have been taught as children. Although not RC, I did attend a convent school and every year we all were encouraged to give up something that we liked. I nearly always gave up sweets and as I got older that sort of evolved into sweets, cakes and biscuits. Chocolate in particular is a real penance for me to give up. Haven't decided whether or not to do it this year - we still have rather a lot of chocs left over from Christmas!!! Edited to say: Just off to eat a cappuccino choc! |

No - I no longer observe that custom. However, strangely I still follow the RC no meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday or Christmas Eve. I will, for the first time ever (yikes), be making pancakes later this afternoon for the boys Random, I 'gave up' booze when my flu started some 4 weeks ago . . . and I have not the slightest inclination to even have a sip!! |

Well, having been raised a protestant in Glasgow, lent was a custom that we did NOT follow , that was strictly a catholic thing, and heaven forbid we did anything that they did lol. Tbh, as I've followed the Christian faith as I have gotten older, I don't really see the point of it, and won't be giving up anything. But good luck to those who do, and hope you make the 40 days |
