April Fool

It appears that most newspapers print a startling story on April 1st, have you ever been caught out by their joke?

Today's treat in our local paper stated that there was a plan to build a 200 ft high statue of Long John Silver, costing £10 million, in Bristol's Docks! It even had his raised leg resting on top of the art gallery.

It was about an hour before I twigged what day it was!

Have you any April 1st gems to share with us?

Re: April Fool

Alas, no. the Washington Post is far too stuffy to do a fun thing like that!

n\Wasn't the famous "spaghetti trees in Italy" an April Fool hoax?

Re: April Fool

Good thread Mags! Love the Long John Silver Fool!

I had a good humoured email this morning from Swinton's the insurance brokers entitled "Angie the aliens are out there. Get covered with Swinton." Unfortunately, I can't copy the email, which was well worded .....

extract:

"In February, the Ministry of Defence released files detailing hundreds of UFO sightings across the UK. In response, Swinton have created Extra Terrestrial Encounters Protection."

There was a video of an MOD spokesman!

You were invited to click on a link to find out more .....

I really like this sort of humour! It was just the sort of thing that I might expect insurance companies to be touting, but it was an April Fool!!!

Unfortunately I can't respond to Swinton's email, otherwise I'd just let them know that I appreciated it!

Yes, it was - I remember that and also the Beatles' wigs made out of the hair carefully removed from beetles' legs!

I would guess at that story being legitimate Angie, due to the fact that it's dated 29th March.

Re: April Fool

Well spotted with the date there Mags!

Here is a YouTube vid of the Panorama film about the spaghetti harvest. It was made in 1957 I think. I love YouTube for saving this little jem!
