Eosinophilic granuloma - To you and me 'Rodent Ulcer'Well this is my Gorgeous George - who actually had his right hind leg amputated in March of this year. Again, thank you to all who supported me through this!!   Unfortunately George has suffered with Rodent Ulcers (Eosinophilic granuloma) since he was a kitten. I do have pictures of the condition however, they are a little graphic as its not too pretty. But if youd like to see, just ask. George is a fab cat and happy as ever, I was just wondering if anyone have ever came accross Rodent Ulcers? And if you had any advice? Hes on a months course of steroids at the moment to calm the ulcers down but hes still being his old self...helping mum with the ironing  ... I think it was because the shirt was warm he persisted to lie on it lol!! (dont worry - iron was off  ) Best Wishes Abby x x

He is a gorgeous George Sorry i have no experience with rodent ulcers in Cats, my nana had one on her face the doctors were in no hurry to remove it as they are apparently slow growing and i assume because of her age ? |

Although I have heard of them in humans, I have no knowledge or experience of them in cats. George is absolutely gorgeous. Please pass on a cuddle to him from me! |

See, now that is so strange because I have never heard of them in humans either. Apparently, it has nothing to do with rodents. Its when (now I could get the blood cells mixed up - I could mean red when I say white and vice-versa) but its when the white blood cells decide to attack an infection when there is nothing wrong. This makes his skin think there is an infection which results in too many white blood cells going to the surface - making the area itchy and irritable - making george lick - which then makes the area sore, and if worse it gets a secondary infection. He also has scabs on his ears, paws, neck and leg - which are no problem but they are all on his right side so he happily lets me pick them off  (then he has little bald patches lol) but again, these are because of the rodent ulcers. The steroids are just to dampen his immune system to stop the outbursts and by the look of the improvement of his leg theyre (fingers crossed!!!) looking much much better!The vets also assured me that because hes dampened his immune system doesnt necessarily mean he will be suceptable to infection - which is less worrying! |
