Re: Christmas eve 2011

Hi Shelley - welcome back - glad you had a good time in Scotland.

It is Christmas Eve and OH and I have taken the opportunity to have a couple of sherries! IMO nothing tastes more like Christmas than plain ole Bristol Cream - we don't have it at any other time of the year.

We've been to see MIL in the home - she is being well looked after but I think that her speech was slurred and I wonder if she's had any more mini strokes - which are common with her type of dementia. We stayed for just under an hour, and really that was too long for our own sanity. Ah well, it's very sad for OH and all I can so is support him as best I can.

The best thing is to talk to her about Monty - she still loves dogs and we've promised to take him in to see her when his behaviour is a bit more reliable, especially his barking. He's been roooooing a bit this morning, not sure at what, a very Schnauzer thing - I think he's trying to talk to his wolf ancestors!!!

Hope everyone has a good day and gets everything done they need to ..... if not, just relax and have a sherry!!!!!

Sherry sounds good Angie.
Sounds like a lovely idea to take Monty to visit your MIL.

Re: Christmas eve 2011

Hi, Shelley, Angie, those to follow. Beautiful day here, brilliant sun, little wind, nearing 11 AM and more seasonable: 5℃ (39℉) It definitely will be a green Christmas. No news, no particular plans, just a lazy paper and crossword afternoon.

That must be so hard for Ian watching his mom deteriorate like that... think Monty is a excellent idea. Glad you had a good time, Shelley, nice to have you back, though. No sherry, but do have a bottle of eggnog a friend brought so think I'll have a bit of that later in the afternoon!

Stay warm and dry and Merry Christmas!

Re: Christmas eve 2011

Not a big fan of cream sherry, I'm an amontillado girl myself but I do put lots of cream sherry in my trifle (hic!) We've started on the chocs here!

OH had an interesting conversation with a delivery driver this morning -
- parcel for you sir
- thank you....... hang on, this is for next door
- next door?
- yes, next door
-it's for no.2
-yes, that's next door
-you're no.2 aren't you?
-no, we're 2A
-you're not no.2 then?
-no, that's next door!
-oh, ok then!

Well it made me giggle but then I wasn't the one standing at the front door in my dressing gown, I don't think OH was amused!

Wet and very windy weather forecast for tonight, I do hope Santa doesn't get blown off course! All is ready here so we've got our feet up doing crosswords.

According to a survey on the quality of life in today's paper, my town Fleet is officially the happiest place in UK to live, measuring education and employment levels, crime rates, and broadband access among other factors. I feel guilty for wanting to move away but I want a less built-up area and a nice view!

Happy Christmas one and all!

Re: Christmas eve 2011

Afternoon all. Had a brilliant day so far out last night and came home a little late and then just as I wanted my lie in this morning I was woken by demented Carol singers....all mostly out of key and whats worse singing two different carols to the same tune. So here I am to report my family are useless Carol singers.

Anyhow onto the day cards exchanged and dog walked, I have dropped cards and flowers to a few friends better then chocolates I think - brought a nice assorment of flowers and have made up the bouquets myself.

Came back to find Mom and Dad swigging Baileys....hope everyone has had a lovely day. Turkey and pork for tomorrow and maybe speak later.

Mrs H I read that about Fleet.

Evening all

Glad to hear you had a nice time in Scotland shelly. We were there at the weekend, snow when we got there, but all gone by the time we left lol.
We're all prepared here now. Soup is made, turkey is defrosting, everything wrapped, and heading out soon to go and see all the lit houses A bit of a tradition here now to drive round whist eating chocs Then back for a light tea, baths, new jammies (for the girls) and then chuck them to bed.

Re: Christmas eve 2011

Well we await the imminent arrival of eldest niece Katie and her boyfriend Tom which looks like it could coincide with my youngest nieces and nephews who are visiting while secret santa helpers move into action in their home. From silence to mayhem in one foul swoop.

Off to batten down the hatches and turn a key in the spare bedroom door.
