I used to write letters to Eileen and my brother in Italy ......sadly to neither anymore. I do still write to an elderly aunt who will be 96 this year, she loves receiving letters still, although her sight isn't too good now. Other than that it is just Birthday and Christmas cards. Letter writing is so much more personal..... |

I am not a good letter writer - I used to occasionally write to an uncle who died a year ago and also to a "boss" who is still an excellent letter writer and we still keep in touch a couple of times a year. I tend to send those blank cards which whilst I am fussy about the picture on the front doesn't actually require an awful lot of writing. I much prefer emails and luckily for me, so do most of my cousins. At least we keep in touch that way far more regularly. |

Glad you got the letter I used to love writing letters when I was younger, I had a few different penpals and it was such a highlight when the postie brought mail just for me. Like most of us I suspect, in this digital age, we've all got used to typing on the computer and sending texts. Letter writing is a dying art form, but writing to Kazz made me realise how much I miss it. I have a memory box (well it's actually a suitacse lol) and it has letters in it from my teens, received from friends, Robert etc when I first moved to Aberdeen. I love to take them out periodically and read them again. Brings back so many memories |

I don't realy write letters anymore, except to my sponser child in Malawi, however it is now possible to email letters instead so i must admit to doing that last time, it is so much easier. However saying that i haven't heard from him since. Emails and instant messages are a marvellous way to keep in touch, as is skype although i don't do it. Texts are also useful as a quick way of communication. In the past i did write letters to penfriends and a boyfriend stationed in Germany. There was nothing like recieving a letter. They are still for me very important although i rarely put pen to paper and i think the last precious letter that Karen recieved from Eileen perfectly illustrates this. The messages recieved from her on here and also the posts are a brilliant legacy. Good thread Karen, can't add to your reputation as i haven't shared enough around |
