That was quite a committment your son made at such a young age, Whacky.....it must have taken an awful lot of thinking about. The problem with joining the army is you don't really know what you are going to have to face in the future. It sounds like a wonderful 'job' when you are young, full of excitement and travelling (and hard work) but you face reality when you are involved in a war. It must have been a really worrying time for you. My son always said he wanted to do computer design when he about 13/14, he studied hard, went to college etc and now enjoys his work. This is a lot different to what your son decided he wanted to do.....I think the army would need a lot more thinking about.... |

I think 16/17 years of age is too young for them to have to make that sort of commitment....I think they are too young at that age to realise the consequences of such a commitment. Like Mag's son, my son (nearly thirteen) fancies a career in computers....I will encourage him all the way as I would be heartbroken quite honestly if he wanted to join up ![]() |

I discouraged my son from the forces...I really think at 16-17 no kid knows exactly whay they want to do.... |

I personally feel it's far too young to decide your future. At the time he was being bullied and thought it was the answer. ![]() This is my son |
